Product Description
The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Paris is the Eiffel Tower. This famous landmark was built between 1887 and 1889 for the World’s Fair in Paris on the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. Attracting more than 6 million visitors each year, it ranks as one of the most visited landmarks in the world.
The Eiffel Tower measures 1063 ft. in height and was named after its designer, Gustave Eiffel. One of the most innovative achievements with the tower was the use of hydraulic elevators. For 41 years after its completion, it was the highest building in the world, before being surpassed by the New York City Chrysler Building in 1930.
Originally, the Eiffel Tower was to be torn down after 20 years. However, it was quickly realized how useful it was for communication: its height permitted the establishment of the first transatlantic radio circuit. The plan to tear it down thus was quickly abandoned. Today, tourists can enter three different platforms to enjoy beautiful views over Paris.
